Feeding La Gonâve

Importing goods onto La Gonâve is difficult and expensive, so growing food on the island is more cost effective and safer. Under the direction of Mr. Jean Thony Joseph, an agronomist educated at St. Barnabas University, the parish staff function as community agriculture agents. The team travels to other communities to enhance agricultural techniques, helping with household, school, and large-scale farming. They assess soil quality, offer recommendations on appropriate seed selection, and share market trend information. The Parish manages the substantial garden in Nouvelle Cite which functions as a plant nursery. Plants from this garden are distributed to farmers all over the island to grow.
