Invest in La Gonâve

Support investments on La Gonâve by making a contribution to our Annul Fund

Dear Friends of La Gonâve Haiti Partners,

Five years ago, my 13-year-old daughter and I had a trip planned to La Gonâve, Haiti. Her mother and I determined that she was mature enough to experience the complexity and joy of a visit to the island that had previously captured my heart. Unfortunately, our trip was cancelled as a result of political violence on the mainland. 2025 now marks five years since any US volunteer from La Gonâve Haiti Partners has been able to spend time with Haitian friends and colleagues on their beloved island.

In that 5-year span, a child born on La Gonâve has never lived in a country at peace. Isolated, they’ve never experienced travel to the mainland. Families haven’t had a respite from the gnawing fear of gang control coming from the mainland to the remote island, nor the constant pressure of food and water scarcity. In these five years there has not been an aspect of life untouched by political and social upheaval.

While the people of La Gonâve face significant challenges, our Partnership continues to do meaningful work; this progress is due to the strong support we’ve received from you, our US donors. A new school building is under construction in the community of Ti Cotelette. St Marthe and Marie Middle School in Palma is now expanding to provide a second high school for the Parish school system. Solar power has been installed there to support the computer classroom. The Professional Center Trade School in Anse-a-Galets has plans for two new buildings to grow its programs. The Bill Rice Healthcare staff continues, against all odds, to provide care through more than 9,000 patient visits, while the agriculture staff supports multiple veterinary clinics and two large farms.

My daughter is now 18, thriving as a Freshman in college. While there is no safe way for us to travel to Haiti, we still aspire to do it one day. In the meantime, La Gonâve Haiti Partners continues to focus on what we can do together, not what we can’t. Despite the physical separation, our Partnership continues to make astounding progress possible. Please consider how you can help sustain the transformative efforts on La Gonâve with your gift during our 2025 Annual Fund campaign.

With Gratitude for your faithful support,

John Greeley, Chair, Board of Directors
