Bill Rice Community Health Center

The center is located in the community of Nouvelle Cité and houses all partnership healthcare programs. There is a Medical Director and a 9 member professional staff. The center has a pharmacy, a laboratory, and a small ward for overnight patients as well as a labor and delivery room. The center provides a primary care clinic on week days and specialty clinics with visiting US medical teams.

Community Health Workers

The partnership has 20 trained workers who are the first line of healthcare for people living in the remote mountain communities. They are equipped with backpacks and supplied with first aid items. They meet monthly at the Bill Rice Community Health Center to learn about emergency and public health issues, about maternal and child health, and about the well-being of new babies.

Maternal and Child Health

The team from Bill Rice Community Health Center provides prenatal clinics in communities across the island. Follow-up care for the mother and baby continues through the first year of the child’s life. The doctor and two skilled birth attendants travel out each month to provide testing, prenatal vitamins, vaccinations and birth control.

Children's Nutrition Program

The program addresses mild to severe malnutrition in children living in remote areas of the island. Once identified, they are treated with Medika Mamba, a ready to eat therapeutic food that is in a peanut base. The product is produced in Haiti with peanuts grown by Haitian farmers. Nurses divide and distribute small, single serving packages for the children. Average treatment time is 4-6 weeks with amazing results.
